How I Feel Empowered as a Mama
Unless you live in a hole, you likely know about essential oils. Maybe you even use them. Maybe you don't, and swear you never will. Maybe you feel similar to how I felt: sick of hearing about them, don't believe they actually work, think they're "salesy" or just a skeptic in general. Well... I'm here to say this: Until I decided that I was going to take control of the wellness of my family (after lots of scary late night visits to Urgent Care, a billion asthma medications, 10 bottles of eczema cream in the cupboard (none of which worked) and too many stuffy noses and sleepless nights to count), I was a skeptic. But here's the honest to God truth: essential oils have impacted my family in so many ways, but more than anything, they've empowered me as a wife & a mom.
So often, I would feel like my family's health was at the mercy of a doctor's appointment. It was in the hands of the urgent care physician (whom I had no choice in) and I could sit there for 2 hours with a fevering child, because I was at their mercy. I felt like my only choice was to pump my kids with Ibprofun, antibiotics, or steroids - I was at the mercy of this medicine. I was always planning the quickest way to get an appt or an rx for my kids or my next strategy to keep everyone healthy. Nothing like the anxiety of a mama, right?
Enter Essential Oils. I was actually given a kit for Christmas, did a little dabbling for a few months and finally, after months of my kids being sick (thanks, preschool!) decided that I had hit my rock-bottom. Collin was traveling for work, I was at home with 4 kids, two of whom were constantly suffering. I was making myself sick with the stress of my kids health. I lived in a constant state of anxiety about my family, my kids and my lack of power in any/all of these situations. I knew there had to be a better way, for me, for my kids, for my husband. I saw the thousands of instagram mamas sharing about oils, and decided to "jump on the bandwagon". Worst case scenario: they don't work! Best case scenario: we go a week at preschool without catching a cold, which spirals into a full on asthma exacerbation and we're back to square one: nebulizers, steroids, ibuprofen etc.
I've spent the last 8 months learning, studying and using essential oils diligently and have been nothing short of impressed.
I am here to say this: essential oils work. I believe in them and their abilities more than I could have ever imagined. They're not a fad, a bandwagon or "trendy". They've changed the health of our family. We use them to boost our immune systems, for respiratory support, when we have butterflies in our tummy, to heal our itchy skin spots and to help the little bodies fight fevers. We use them to brighten the mood in our house, to give us courage and to support healthy sleep habits. BUT, more than any of that... essential oils have empowered us. Instead of reaching for the Ibuprofen, I grab my peppermint oil. Instead of living in fear of getting sick, I'm proactive about boosting our immune systems with a wellness roller morning and night & thieves in our diffuser all day. Oils have given me the confidence and power to be able to take charge of my family's health in a way I didn't know possible. For that, I'm forever grateful.
If you want to feel the same empowerment that I do, learn from some incredible women and be a part of something that will undoubtedly change the health and wellness of your family, here's how! My only regret: that I didn't start sooner.
